Tell us a bit about your background, both work and education. How did you come to find your true passion?

I am a teacher at heart. My doctorate is in Educational Leadership and I have been a professor at Robert Morris University for the last decade, proudly teaching future teachers and leaders from the undergrad to Ph.D. level. This work has earned me the title of an Official “Super Professor “in the top 200 academics worldwide by Faculty Row. I am blessed that I have been able to tap into other skills sets to excel in the areas of performing on stage, business, philanthropy, and media. My business Inspiring Lives, LLC has earned me a spot as one of the “2015 National Association of Professional Women VIP Woman of the Year” and as the “Best Business Woman” of 2013 in Pittsburgh from the Women’s Small Business Association. When I realized that my personal mission is to educate, entertain, and inspire internationally… is when I really started to utilize my passions to create success for myself, my children and the women in my Global Sisterhood.

After reading about what it means to us to #StyleYourLife, how do you style your life? How do you customize it and make your life for you?

I love to #StyleMyLife… and I often do this by playing dress up for great causes! In fact, I received the “Exceptional Artist Award” and was inducted into the Pittsburgh Fashion Hall of Fame this year. I was raised in the theater and continue to use my acting/singing talents to host galas such as the Fabulous Forties which have raised over $100,000 for homeless children in shelters. Active on multiple non-profit boards, I am extremely passionate about the Homeless Children’s Education Fund charity and serve on the advisory board. I adore volunteering in the shelters and my company Inspiring Lives, LLC does head-to-toe Mommy Makeovers for the ladies in transition in collaboration with other women-owned beauty businesses in Pittsburgh such as Elliven Spa. I also have a ball working the runway… modeling often for charities fashion shows such as the American Heart Association (Go Red Campaign), Susan G. Komen, the Pittsburgh Zoo, Charity: Water, St. Baldrick’s Cancer Center, Animal Friends, Charity: Water, and the American Red Cross. I love to raising funds for non-profits by performing to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and emcee the fashion show annually for Treasure House Fashions I which is a retail store that helps 60 women centered charities and over 10,000 ladies. It is always such a thrill to have fun with my passion for fashion while raising money for those in need!

Can you tell us a bit about what’s in store for your future?

I have been searching the globe for empowered and successful women to be interviewed for show Empowering Women radio and my sixth book, Common Threads. Empowering Women Radio can be listened to on Soundcloud for listening anytime, anywhere… as a free resource for women to learn from other incredible women. Empowering Women Radio explores the personal stories of ladies and illuminates their strategies for everything from achieving life balance to manifesting goals.

From women from humble beginnings who are millionaires to a Broadway star… while on sabbatical from my professor position at Robert Morris University I am interviewing 100 successful empowered women. Common Threads will answer questions (including but limited to) based on the interviews from 100 women internationally: 1) how they found success; 2) obstacles they have faced; 3) strategies that helped them achieve, 4) how they juggle it all, and 5) what wisdom would they give the women of the world? Since my company recently raised over 13K in under a month with over a hundred backers through our Empowering Women Kickstarter, we can now work towards this goal of bring the women of the world this powerful resource!

Do you have any tips/tricks to share with aspiring women in business and fellow female leaders?

“You are what you think”… this is something that I totally believe and see as a common thread as I have been working with some of the top women in the world. You need to recognize self-talk; be sure that you are always visualizing that which you want to achieve as opposed to the negative that can flow in and out of our heads. Be not afraid of failure… all the best have stumbled in their journey. Take deliberate action and manifest your ultimate goals.

What does it mean to be happy, to you? Can you share 5 tips to happiness?

Personally I am most happy when I see pure joy in my children’s faces. Here are my 5 tips to happiness…

1. Have a dance break at work or home.
2. Hug a kiddo, a pet, or a friend.
3. Volunteer… when you help others, your heart will reap the benefits!
4. Collaborate instead of competing.
5. Take care of yourself through mediation, exercise, and eating well… and live in abundance: Buy the shoes!

How would you advise other women to take control of their careers and customize their lives in all aspects?

Find a good mentor to guide you who has been there and knows the path. There are many women in the Global Sisterhood of Empowering Women who would love for you to hear their story: Please listen to the Empowering Women Radio episodes and learn from the ladies’ personal journeys. Reach out to me through if what I wrote here strikes a chord with your heart. It is through sisterhood that we can all begin to complete each other instead of competing!
